My Interview with Author Elaine Barris

Master For Tonight ll comes out September 4th 2014!  Be sure to come back tomorrow to read all about it!

Sassy: What got you into writing / what made you sit down and actually start something?

Elaine: I've always been an avid reader, and also had this desire to write. The thing was I never knew what I wanted to write about. Then one day, this guy started talking to me in my head (sounds strange, I know, but it’s true). He wouldn't leave me alone until I told his story.

Sassy: Are you a planner/panster when it comes to writing a story?

Elaine: I don’t do marker boards, or spend hours on storylines. If anything,

I have a bunch of post-it notes with my scribbles on it from when ideas come when I’m at work.

Sassy: What has been your highlight since becoming a published author?

Elaine: Seeing someone actually love what I wrote has been both amazing and humbling. I still shocks me when someone tells me they love my book.

Sassy: What do you do in your spare time?

Elaine: Right now, I don’t really have any spare time. But, if I did have some, I’d be reading.

Sassy: Do you get writers block? If so, how do you overcome it?

Elaine: Oh yes, I get writer’s block. The way I get over it is just to write. Keep going and see what happens.

Sassy: Can you share a little of your most recent book or series with us?

Elaine: I’d love to! Master For Tonight II is the sequel to Master For Tonight. It continues Julian and Kate’s fight to be together against some really tough odds.

Sassy: What advice would you give for new authors?

Elaine: 1) Never respond to a bad (but real) review. The fact is that not

everyone will like your book. I don’t like every book I read, and I’m sure you

don’t either. 2) Do not respond to a reviewer who is just mean and being

that way on purpose. There’s just no sense in wasting time with it, and your

true fans will be promoting you and see past that. Besides, you should be

working on your next book. 3) Have fun!

Sassy: What is one thing about yourself you want your readers to know?

Elaine: I’m really shy in person.

Sassy: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

Elaine: Anne Rice is my favorite author. She sweeps the reader into the world she has created so easily, and her word usage is superb.

Sassy: What books have most influenced your life most?

Elaine: The Vampire LeStat, Vampire Empire, The Mageri Series, Experiment in Terror Series

Sassy: Would you or do you use a PR agency? Why?

Elaine: I’m currently contracted with a small firm. It’s extremely hard for a new author to get his/her name out in the market. I need all the help I can get.

Sassy: What is your favorite positive saying?

Elaine: I don’t have a saying, but I do have a mantra for when I get panicky. “All is well. All will be well.”

Sassy: Do you write full-time or part-time?

Elaine: Part-time. I work full-time.

Sassy: Who designed your book cover/s?

Elaine: Me and my husband’s friend are on the covers of the books, and Rachel Olson of No Sweat Graphics prettied them up for me. I absolutely love what she did.

Sassy: Do you think that the cover plays an important part in the buying process?

Elaine: Sometimes. I don’t buy books for covers though.

Sassy: What are your thoughts on good/bad reviews?

Elaine: Who doesn't love a good review? Who doesn't hate a bad review? As long as the reviewer is being honest, you take the good and the bad.

Sassy: What is your biggest pet peeve?

Elaine: When someone takes their meal out of the microwave before the timer is done, and they don’t hit the “Clear” button to reset the time.

Sassy: Tell us about your family.

Elaine: I’m married to a long-suffering man who is my number one fan.

Sassy: Does your family support your writing?

Elaine: Yes, my husband fully supports me. There’s no way I could have ever finished writing two books without his support.

Sassy: What is your favorite recipe? Please include it.

Elaine: I cook maybe once or twice a year. It’s just my husband and me, so we do a lot of heat-and-serve casseroles....
