My Interview with Author Melanie James
Sassy: What got you into writing / what made you sit down and actually start something?
Author Melanie James: I have always written, it was a matter of actually finishing a story. I have all of these thoughts running around in my head. The more I write, the more the ideas come.
Sassy: Are you a planner/plotter when it comes to writing a story?
Author Melanie James: I am.
Sassy: What has been your highlight since becoming a published author?
Author Melanie James: Having a reader tell me that my book helped them through their crappy day or crappy time in their life.
Sassy: What do you do in your spare time?
Author Melanie James: Hang out with my kids and husband. I love to go camping, travel, cook, bake, read, biking, swimming. There just aren't enough hours in a day.
Sassy: Do you get writers block? If so, how do you overcome it?
Author Melanie James: I am always writing two different stories at one time. So I will usually flip over to work on the other one, or get up and walk away.
Sassy: Can you share a little of your most recent book or series with us?
Author Melanie James: Serious Leigh - By Melanie James
Isabel added, “Yes, Leigh, it’s a very important power for us. We got a look at that story that you have started. Let’s see—I have the title written down somewhere.” She shuffled through a small notebook. I ...cringed with embarrassment, because I wasn’t sure if they were going to laugh their asses off at the title I had chosen. “Ah ha! Here it is.” She cleared her throat and then announced it, loud and clear. “Four Bitten Fangtasy.”
There was a crazed cackle and a snort from behind me. I turned my head to see who it was, and there was Esmeralda, the Naughty Librarian. I had no idea that she was still in the room. “You’re kidding, right?” Asked Esmeralda.
“No. No, that is the title she has. I’m sorry you don’t approve, Esmeralda, but we love it.”
“Umm, is there any special reason that you are interested in my story? Because, seriously, it is nothing more than a sort of fan fiction. Well, more like payback against the author of my favorite series. I never intended for it to be anything substantial.”
“Oh, we are all fans of paranormal romance books. I mean, why wouldn’t we be?” They all chuckled.
“Yes. I just love the werewolf books, personally. I can only speak for myself, when I say that I am hoping for a book that finally gets it right. And let me tell you something honey, once you’ve tried werewolf, you’ll have a whole new appreciation for the word stamina!” Isabel said.
“Seriously, Isabel? Werewolves stink and all they want to do is doggy style. Now, let me tell you something, when it comes to fucking around with a werewolf, protection has a whole new meaning.” Marie chimed in.
Hilda joined in. “You’ve got that right sister, a flea collar, that’s the protection you’ll have to insist on. And don’t even get me started on how they lick their own furry balls. Disgusting creatures. They should all be muzzled—and castrated.”
“You witches are harsh! I’m sorry, but I just can’t resist those puppy dog eyes.” Isabel cooed.
I was shocked at the conversation playing out before me. “Wait! You’re saying that werewolves are real? What else? Fairies? Vampires?”
Sassy: What advice would you give for new authors?
Author Melanie James: Don't stop writing.
Sassy: What is one thing about yourself you want your readers to know?
Author Melanie James: I'm a person... just like you.
Sassy: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
Author Melanie James: I have so many, Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, JR Ward, Sherrilynn Kenyon, Karen Marie Moning, and of course Anne Rice. The list goes on and on. Their ability to create stories that hook you instantly.
Sassy: What books have most influenced your life most?
Author Melanie James: All books that I read affect me in one way or another, because they make me think deeper about the subject matter.
Sassy: Would you or do you use a PR agency? Why?
Author Melanie James: I would yes, it would probably be easier then trying to do everything myself.
Sassy: What is your favorite positive saying?
Author Melanie James: Just do it!
Sassy: Do you write full-time or part-time?
Author Melanie JamesFull-time, but I also work part-time and attend grad school full-time.
Sassy: Who designed your book covers?
Author Melanie James: I have two different designers, Dead Pixels and Dreams to Media
Sassy: Do you think that the cover plays an important part in the buying process?
Author Melanie James: Absolutely
Sassy: What are your thoughts on good/bad reviews?
Author Melanie James: Reviews are what they are. I can't do anything about them. I don't like every book I read, so I don't expect ev: ery reader to like me. It would be nice if people would like time to read the synopsis before buying and criticizing the book. Not every book is made for every reader. Taste is very selective.
Sassy: What is your biggest pet peeve?
Author Melanie James: Chewing with your mouth open! Ughhh drives me nuts!
Sassy: Tell us about your family.
Author Melanie JamesI am married and have two amazing kids, three step kids and an adorable grandbaby.
Sassy: Does your family support your writing?
Author Melanie James: Yes, they are great about it.
Sassy: What is your favorite recipe? Please include it.

Review-My Forever by Kira Adams
Book Title – My Forever Author – Kira Adams Publisher – Kira Adams ISBN/ASIN - B00KF4TK6Q Genre Romance, YA Grief and loss can make a person act out in all the worst kinds of ways. Madalynne Johnson has always been a bit of a handful, but with the loss of her brother, separation of her parents, and her boyfriends unexpected news of joining the army she has gone into a full on tailspin.
|
Krista Pakseresht has always been a dreamer. From the first time she opened her eyes. Creating worlds through words is one thing she is truly talented at. She specializes in Young adult/New adult romance, horror, action, fantasy, and non-fiction under the pen name Kira Adams. She is the author of the Infinite Love series, the Foundation series, the Darkness Falls series, and the Looking Glass series. |
Let me start off with the fact that the premise of the story was a good one. I think the idea of high school first loves is a great one. After all pretty much everyone experiences first loves while in school and even a smaller few make it the long haul. The story has all the makings of what could be a really great story, but I don't feel like it was well executed. The author had great intentions, but I just think it was put together well. Perhaps if the author can get an editor to help rework the story a little to help with organization and grammar stuff it would be great.
All of that being said the story itself was decent. You meet Madalynn, she is a high school coping with loss and family turmoil. She is unsure of herself and what she wants out of life. Honestly, after finishing the story I still don't feel like I fully grasp what Mady is about other than her boyfriend. She spends all her time pushing him away, giving him mixed signals, and then goes back to not being able to function at all without him. While I know that she is in high school and kids at that age typically can't or won't see anything outside of high school. I almost feel like she was just a little selfish because she almost demanded guys to be pining over her. It was really hard for me to sympathize with her because I am a military wife and my hubby didn't get to come home after basic, he went straight to AIT. Just my 2 cents here :)
Then we meet Parker the love interest, the first love, and high school sweetheart. I sympathize a little more with him. I actually felt bad for him because he kept getting pushed away. But then I began to think him a bit of a weaker character because he pined after Mady even after various things that would have sent most high school boys running the other way. He then contemplates giving up his dreams to join the Army just to keep Mady happy and that is never a good way to start off a relationship. (hide spoiler)]
All in all it was an okay read for me. It could be made better by some reworking of various parts of the story.

Excerpt 1
The trees surrounding the glen where the witch was reported to live, were bent over and twisted into odd shapes, as if they suffered arthritic pains. It was dusky dark under those snake-like contortions of limb and leaves, and smelled of mold and dampness under the deep purplish shade. Azra felt sure sunlight had never touched the earth beneath the overhanging giants, yet the sun had seared her shoulders before stepping into the trees gloom but a moment before.
At first glance, she thought there was an overgrown hill nestled between the giants, but in reality, it was a profusion of vines and greenish-black creepers crawling into and over a tiny hut. A small door was barely distinguishable between the virulent growths, but someone kept the doorway cleared. Before her hand descended on the cracked wood, an ancient sounding voice called for her to enter. Her nostrils flared, offended by the strange smells emanating from within, the sickening mingling of ancient magic making it worse. Dark power. Dark magic. She shivered in reaction.
She found a haggard old woman with lank hair dragging the ground, sitting on a small stool and stirring a smelly concoction in a hearth blackened pot. The interior was darker than the tree shadows, relieved only by the hearth fire, which threw out shoots of sparks and faint light. It lit the witch’s face and Azra realized she’d held her breath for a horrified moment, for the old crone looked an ogre in its lair.
The woman grinned widely showing two bone white teeth, everything else in her mouth blackened or greenish with decay. Azra shivered as she realized how the witch’s appearance replicated the hut’s exterior, and the old sorceress knew well the image she created.
“Fairy child, come to the old witch for help, eh?”

Author Bio
Born and raised in New Orleans, Annie has a habit of shortening her words and telling long stories. She speaks with a southern flair and cooks with it too. At the tender age of twenty- one, she hitched up her wagons (took her first plane ride) and moved out west to the big shake (California). Her writing career began one sleepless night when she imagined a gorgeous woman and a man with maniacal hair floating above her like lightening bugs falling from the sky. Curious about them, their story, and why they were floating around in her head, she sat down and penned (typed) her first novel, Marigny Street. A dream come true for her, she hasn't stopped writing since. She loves a damn good love story, always has, no matter what the genre. She is particularly moved by imperfect love that in its own unique way is perfect, the notion of love at first sight, soul mates, and things that are generally out of the norm.
When she's not writing she enjoys dabbling in photography and finding new, inspirational music to add to her collection. She currently (still) resides in the big shake (although her southern roots are calling her home) with her husband, daughter, and their two peculiar dogs, Boudreaux and Tabasco (who, call her crazy, bark with an accent).
